THE ALREADY UNDERRATED ALBUM OF THE YEAR: ALLIE X – THE GIRL WITH NO FACE by Jesse McMurry
The Girl with No Face is the 3rd studio album by Allie X released on February 23, 2024, with 4 official singles released (Black Eye, Girl with No face, Off with Her Tits and Weird World) which are all influenced by 80s and 90s pop. Allie X started her music career in 2006 with an album called “Waiting for the Prize” under her legal name but found her first big hit with “Paper Love” in 2017, Which was the first time I ever caught wind of her on the radio. In full she has 3 studio albums and 2 Eps under the name Allie X.
In 2015 Allie X released her EP “CollXtion I” which is one of the best Eps I can say I’ve listened to. Following the well-received reviews of CollXtion I came her first full length studio album called “CollXtion II” which has “Paper Love” and “Old Habits Die Hard” which were the most well received songs from the album. In 2018 came her next EP titled “Super Sunset” which in full has 8 tracks that she performed in a digital concert to promote the EPs release in later 2018. Her next body of work that would be released before Girl with No face is “Cape God” in 2020 with 12 tracks all with different unique sounds and visuals (My favorite tracks being Love Me Wrong (Ft. Troye Sivan), Devil I Know and Sarah Come Home).
Then 4 years later in 2024 comes what I think is her best body of work and one of the best of 2024, right next to Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter”. Girl with No Face has 10 tracks all influenced by 80s and 90s rock/pop. With the release of her first single titled “Black Eye” I was hooked from the very unique sound to the way the song alone makes fell, it is very easy to separate Allie X from another mainstream artist releasing in 2024.
