Let’s Get Weird One More Time!
The Weird Sisters, comprising of Nashville based musicians Izaac Short and Gabrielle Lewis, are calling it quits (or maybe just hiatus) after just a few more shows. One of those gigs is this Saturday, August 8th at The Basement East, and it could be the duos last hometown show. This was their formal message to the listening world just a few weeks ago via social media:
The music is not completely over as, this Friday, the group will also be releasing a new single called “Top Dog” backed with the track of “Call Me Dion.” If you ever missed catching this intergalactic tandem perform in person we at Rock Oracle implore you to hit up this show. I cannot thank my dude Will Morrison enough for introducing me to the space disco that is The Weird Sisters. I have seen four shows since moving to Nashville just a few years ago and I am certainly not going to miss this one. The Weird Sisters offer something different in their music and that is a complete and personal interaction with their fanbase. The sounds are literally out of this world and can be described as a combination of funk, dance, disco, soul and electronica but to fully chronicle what your eyes and ears will try to comprehend you MUST immerse yourself in the pool of sonically induced light that these two provide.
If this is their last show, I am sure glad that my friends and I got to experience some terrific performances and dance maniacally with likeminded folks. I remember penning this in a former article, “The complexity of the music paints abstract grooves and scratches scores of stories we have all wanted to behold. Their voices add to the fray and slap on yet another layer of gorgeous convolution. Izaac has a raspy, robotic element piped into his microphone that heightens this mystical adventure. His words seem to bounce around the room and crash through any physical barriers. Gabrielle is not to be missed on the other side of this team. She brings forth an element of soul, hitting high angelic notes and phenomenally constructed primal screams. She dances graciously between notes and vocals. She is in the moment. We are all in the moment.”
The message is this: GET TO THIS SHOW BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! The Weird Sisters need to be seen. While I am initially saddened by this news I am ultimately exhilarated by what they will create next. These are two very talented souls who share a love for music and art that met for a moment in time and painted a sound that will live on forever. However, sometimes is necessary to explore your individuality and I have absolutely no doubt that these humans will be hitting us with more poetic imagery and tonality. Never forget to support your local artists and show them the love by purchasing that ticket and grabbing some merch. That goes for you local independent venue as well. We are stronger together when we share in the music.
