Oasis is Back, Definitely Maybe

Oasis is Back, Definitely Maybe

Extra! Extra! Read all about it, Oasis will reunite next summer!  The brothers Gallagher will put aside their differences… for now …and play together again, probably.  Liam and Noel have been separated since 2009 when Noel announced he, “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” You remember all the spats, right?  However, that last statement stuck and in fact, Noel sued his brother in 2011.

We never saw The Beatles reunite but some current fans find this to be equal to or greater than that reconciliation. And if Fab Four from Liverpool were bigger than Jesus (John Lennon’s words), then how big is this news?! If you don’t recall in 1996, Noel Gallagher “joked” in an MTV interview that Oasis was bigger than The Beatles, but he later denounced his claims saying he was “high” at the time.

There have been murmurs and “almost happenings” throughout the years referring to a get back concert. In 2017, Liam and Noel were said to be reuniting at a charity concert, in Manchester, to raise money the victims and their families of the Ariana Grande concert bombing attack. Noel didn’t show for that one which prompted Liam to apologize. “Noels out of the fucking country,” he wrote on the then social media platform, “weren’t we all love get on a fucking plane and play your tunes for the kids you sad fuck.” So it’s safe to say that things weren’t going so well then either.

They tried again in 2020 during the COVID pandemic, but again Noel couldn’t do it.  They seem to only show up in the press to rip and ridicule one another, but it seems brothers will be brothers and the once top of the charts band will put family (or the money) first.  Even with the 15-year breakup, Oasis is one of the top selling bands ever.  As of August 2024, Oasis is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, selling more than 75 million records worldwide. The English rock band has had eight UK number one albums and singles, three Platinum albums in the US, and 22 consecutive UK top 10 hits between 1994 and 2008.

Definitely Maybe was the debut record that shot the band into immediate overnight success in 1994. Their second album What’s The Story Morning Glory? has sold 22 million copies on its own which puts it in the Top 10 according to Forbes rankings.

Whether it’s the principal of burying the hatchet, and not in each other’s backs this time or if it is just a monetary transaction, the lads are back.  According to music industry experts, these Oasis shows could bring in $400 million, with Liam and Noel making around $50 million each.  I think I could hang out and play music with some pretty terrible people for those stacks.  It’d be some pretty terrible music also.

The tour is a long way out from now, and with the Gallagher chaps, you never know how they might implode between now and then.  I can guarantee it would be epic.  Hopefully it happens because it would be, at its simplest form, good.  It would be more proof that music heals.  So much joy would be brought to so many people and for these two to give it another go shows us that there is a true effort to forget the pettiness of the past and live in the moment.  Time is something we cannot get back, but we can always do better while we are here.

Want tickets? Here’s what we’ve gathered.

There will be a pre-sale ballot of tickets – ahead of the general sale – that will take place on Friday 30 August 2024.

Registration for the ballot is now open and will close at 19:00 BST on Wednesday 28 August.

Fans who apply must fill out their contact details, and answer a general knowledge question about the band.

Success in the ballot will not necessarily guarantee tickets, with tickets to be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The band said the ballot was intended to “ensure the maximum number of fans have a fair opportunity to access tickets”.

Oasis warned emails confirming people have registered may be slow to arrive due to the “extremely high volume of entries”.

Successful applicants will receive a further email with access information on Friday morning.

When are tickets going on general sale?

Following the pre-sale on Friday, tickets for the UK shows will go on general sale at 09:00 BST on Saturday 31 August 2024.

Dublin general sale tickets will be available an hour earlier, on the same day.
