The people who make music (at any/every stage of the process) absolutely embody Hibiscus/Hummingbird energy. They pursue that flow in order to send something of true beauty out into the Universe that brings so much joy to so many people. While joy (as well as music that brings joy) can be highly subjective, some artists that immediately come to my mind are: Cher, Hans Zimmer … DOLLY PARTON. (We will miss you so much, dearest Dolly. See here for The Godfather’s piece regarding his mom’s recent visit and their outings that led them to honoring and sending love to Dolly.) Artists like these more-than-honorable mentions have creates such an abundance of good energy with their music – and thank Universe for that.

This past weekend, I and fellow wondrous dreamer and writer Melinoe Morningstar were gifted free IMAX tickets to see the debut of Ghost’s concert/live album film ‘2 Big to Rig’. I’d like to start off with saying a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Rock Steady Nashville and everyone involved (will give more details on that a bit later) for organizing such a kick ass, inspiring event. Nashville certainly has a reputation for its extensive music community, but there’s also a lot of other art and artists here that sometimes wind up feeling a bit separate from the music scene, which has always felt like a missed opportunity in my mind. What I loved most about Rock Steady’s event was that it brought together several different artists and mediums – as well as missions – into one event … all in the name of Rock! What could be better?!

Living in Nashville quickly introduces you to the wide world of music. It seems that everyone you meet is involved in the music industry somehow and most are extremely gifted in their area of expertise.Having lived in/around the city my whole life, I’ve been honored to meet many of those people – some being some of the most talented musicians in the area. Even more of an honor, some of those people have become good friends over time. Hell, I eventually snagged one of my own to marry LOL which is funny, really, because I used to vehemently state: “I will NEVER marry a musician!” Don’t ask why I used to say that LOL I can’t recall what so heavily concerned my early-20s brain about it … but I’m VERY glad (obviously) that sentiment didn’t manifest!

Music can produce such intense responses for listeners – we know this to be true – but have you considered what that experience is like for the creators? Composing the notes and rhythms, building the songs from the ground up … musicians pour parts of their soul into the music they share out. As consumers, it’s easy to take elements like that for granted, of course.

I can’t recall what song played first – or which one I trulyheard first – but I do remember when Straylight Run’s song, Existentialism on Prom Night, came on … This immense feeling of understanding and presence washed over me. Every single note, every vibration streaming through the air … it was as if I could feel the molecules shifting around me – the air around me changing as each note rang out from the speakers. I’d even go so far to say I envisioned the music in my mind’s eye, each note producing a different color, image, shape, etc. Again, only sharing my own experience here and would never aim to talk someone into doing it, but I will say – the whole experience was magical, to say the least. In the end, I felt opened up to music even more than before – more than I could have ever imagined was possible, really. My psyche changed for the better that day.
