A Benefit Concert Planned in LA

FireAid is Set to Raise Money for Wildfire Relief


A benefit concert for victims of the ongoing California wildfires has been announced. The show is billed as ‘FireAid’ and the performances will take place on January 30 at two venues, the Kia Forum and the new Intuit Dome, both located in the Los Angeles city of Inglewood. The concert will take place just three days before the Grammy Awards, meaning an A-list lineup of performers is likely as they arrive in town for the big weekend. Proceeds for the event will go to a 501(c)(3) with the purpose of “rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families, and advancing fire prevention technologies and strategies to ensure LA is better prepared for fire emergencies,” according to a press release.

The event is being produced by Hollywood power couple Irving Azoff and his wife Shelli Azoff, in conjunction with Live Nation and AEG Presents. Irving Azoff, a legendary mogul, in the music industry, manages artists such as the Eagles, Gwen Stefani, Harry Styles, Christina Aguilera and John Mayer through The Azoff Company, which also has a consultancy agreement with the Madison Square Garden Company that includes the Kia Forum in Inglewood.A significant aspect of the relief efforts includes a $1 million pledge from the Recording Academy and MusiCares.

Among the artists who are performing at the concert are native Angelenos Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gracie Abrams, along with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Tate McRae, Earth, Wind & Fire, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Joni Mitchell, Lil Baby, Rod Stewart, Sting, Stephen Stills and Stevie Nicks. Dave Matthews and John Mayer will also be performing, together for the first time.

  • The Palisades fire broke out Tuesday, January 7, near Los Angeles. So far it has burned more than 23,700 acres, including homes and businesses in Pacific Palisades and along the Pacific Coast Highway. It is 22% contained.
  • The Eaton fire also began January 7 and has burned more than 14,100 acres. It’s now 55% contained.
  • The Hurst fire also began January 7 and has burned nearly 800 acres and is 98% contained.
  • The Lidia fire broke out January 8 and has burned 395 acres and is now 100% contained
  • The Kenneth fire began January 9 and burned 1,052 acres. It’s fully contained.
  • The Sunset fire broke out January 8 and became fully contained January 9. It burned 43 acres.
  • The Auto fire started January 13 and has burned more than 60 acres. It is 85% contained.
  • Twenty-five people have died — 8 in the Palisades fire and 17 in the Eaton fire. At least 23 people are still reported missing.
  • Around 88,000 people are still under evacuation orders, down from 180,000 people.
  • Crews from California and nine other states and Mexico are actively fighting the flames with 1,400 fire engines and 84 aircraft. They have concerns for the next round of strong Santa Ana winds that are forecasted this week.

Viewers around the world will be able to watch, stream and make contributions to FireAid on several platforms including Apple Music, Apple TV, Max, KTLA+, Netflix/Tudum, Paramount+, Prime Video and more. The concert will also be broadcast on 860 iHeartRadio radio stations. Contributions will be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation, which will “help coordinate a team to direct funds for the greatest impact” and provide “short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disasters.”

Variety informs that award season timelines have also shifted, with nominations for the Oscars, PGA Awards, and WGA Awards delayed, the Critics Choice Awards rescheduled to January 26, and other high-profile gatherings like the BAFTA Tea Party and AFI Luncheon postponed.
