Freaky Wilderness: “Immeasurable Heaven” | Psychedelic Rock For the Soul

Gemini Sun-Leo Moon 5/20/26

Welcome Ghouls, Demons and Fellow Wyrd Ones! Today I have a spectacular treat laced in LSD for you all. I want to shoutout my beloved Gemini, Michael, and his Gemini Full Moon Manifesto “Immeasurable Heaven.” Ironic as I share this during Gemini Season, I am almost, (almost), at a loss for words to describe how much I love this album. Where to begin?! I suppose any good story starts at the beginning. However, that would take us back to 2017 when Michael was on tour with Ghost Adventures, recording an episode about Skin Walkers in Fruitland, NM. Fruitland, NM is about 20-30 minutes away from my hometown, Farmington. Farmington is the 4th largest city in New Mexico. Fruitland is a small reservation town on the outskirts of Kirtland and the Navajo Nation. It is always amazing to me to reflect upon the random, and (amazingly) Wyrd connections I make along my life’s path.

To make a long story short, through a series of divine events, Michael and I ended up at the Bowling Alley together with his friends/colleagues and my friends. There is not much to do in any of these small towns of the Four Corners. The Ghost Adventures crew needed something to do. I was invited along for the ride with my Sagittarius bestie, Carissa. I was completely unaware that in 9 years I would be writing up a Music Review. Who knew such a seemingly “insignificant” moment in time would lead here. I had the greatest time chatting it up with Michael and the crew at the Bowling Alley. We exchanged social media and the rest has been history! I recall moments over the years a bit surprised that Michael and I stayed connected. I was accustomed to people falling off. Although, an Aquarius and a Gemini will always find a way to remain friends. So, I suppose I shouldn’t be toooo surprised after all.

Regardless, I was always a bit humbled by our connection. Michael was a “somebody,” and most of my life, I’ve felt like a “nobody.” It was an honor that he continued to converse with me. I always enjoyed the moments in which we would connect. Michael, whether he is aware of it or not, has been a huge role model in my life and my career. I have always taken away something powerful from our conversations. Often opening my naive and young eyes to new perspectives of the world. Michael was well travelled and well educated. I was a young lady fighting for her life. There has been a part of me who wanted to “grow up to be just like him.” He’s inspired me more than he knows. Which is why I have made it my mission to memorialize that inspiration and write up this review of love. Not only for my dear friend, not only for a mentor who gave me permission to live the life of my dreams, but for a truly talented Visionary/Artist and Musician.

I remember the day I witnessed the Social Media Post for this album/band in August. An announcement of the single release “See You On the Other Side.” My first impression of Freaky Wilderness. I was familiar with Michael’s art with Space Merchants. This was something new, and something VERY exciting to me. There was something about the vibe of this that was setting off alarm bells in my head. I expressed my feelings about the sound to Michael through an Instagram message. Continuing down the path, in October there was a single release for “I Ain’t Tortured.” Which announced the album release date of 12/13/24 (Also a Friday the 13th). I was giddy to the bone over the astrology. Of course, I messaged Michael immediately and informed him on how fucking rad it was that he was intuitively releasing this debut album waxing into a Gemini Full Moon.

I remember the day I sat down to listen to the album. I was outside in the freakishly warm Nashville weather. It was December after all. The sun was bright. You would’ve sworn it was Gemini Summer, not end of the pole Sagittarius Winter. I was walking my dogs down a median field near our apartment subdivision. A Sacred ground full of Sacred Trees. My own Nashvillian “Freaky Wilderness.” (Fun Fact: This Land is considered Sacred and Protected by the City/State. It is preserved to avoid building more stupid, tall and skinny, unaffordable, and cheaply crafted “housing.” I have a few Tree Spirits here. Two of which deceased during the Nashville Ice Storm of 2026. May they RIP. However, Blanche is still standing strong!) The Entire Album is beautifully entrancing. I told Michael I envision myself walking down the street to the beat on a half gram of mushies. For those squares out there, a joint is just fine too.

And for the super squares that reside on Team Straight Edge? The music will get you high enough on its own. I don’t believe they make music quite like this anymore. Or it is quite rare and in niche scenes. The album takes you back in time to the 60s/70s with peak psychedelic rock, stoner doom metal and Black Sabbath foundational homage. Black Sabbath crawled so Freaky Wilderness could soar! Yet, there is a uniqueness of genre blends to their sound. I love the obvious signs of inspiration, with an authentic twist! This is how you honor your heroes and stay autonomous.

Freaky Wilderness is not a modern-day copycat, but the Next Generation that could easily be confused for a band of that era. Whether I am walking down the street, getting lost in the forrest, dancing at a gig, or jamming to some tunes in a conversation pit? It is vital for this album to be bumping through any speakers available. You won’t be able to stay still regardless. Either way you’ll be boogie woogie-ing and presenting your best stank face. Lyrically you will find resonance with the anxiety of our modern world and the existential crisis of survival in these concrete jungles. Freaky Wilderness does a fantastic job at expressing deeply powerful divine/psychedelic messaging with their “Heavy Psych, Cosmic Fuzz, Acid Western” Sound. You would not expect anything less from our Gemini Front Man and Lyricist. I am not sure I could give you a favorite song. As biased as I may sound, it truly takes a lot for me to enjoy an entire album, or the entirety of an artist.

I tend to be a Cherry Picker. I tend to Cook Book Read and Absorb Content. Yet, this album has had me hooked from start to finish time and time again. I do not recall there being an overall concept to this album. Although, each track complements one another perfectly. The flow of the album is smooth. An intentional sequence for easy listening, and a trip worthy initiation. However, if I had to pick one song? JUST ONE?! (Now I AM tortured….) I would say it would be “My Name is Nobody.” I am thoroughly amused by the intro and the eeriness to it. I love how it mellows out into Melodic Western Anthem. If I am an Outlaw Cowgirl of the Wild West riding my Black Beauty into the Abyss? This is the song I want soundtracking my adventures. The song I need blasting as I rob banks, murder wanted men, and contemplate my life path. It is the song I want to make Love to my Husband to beneath the Glow of the Full Moon. (No Wonder it is parenthesized “Sex Song.”)

Needless to say, I highly recommend this album. There is not a niche, nor a specific community I want to recommend this album to either. I want the world to play this album. I want the world to come together as one and dance hand in hand with “Call It Love” blasting. I want the next Woodstock Generation singing along until our lungs give out. My only regret would be that I have yet to witness a Live Performance, in person. I have rocked out to the Live Videos they have shared online. However, the day I get to Walk my Talk statedabove? Is the day I am truly alive and present. Michael has informed me that there is new music on the way! I can’t wait to dive into that masterpiece and write up another love letter. This time it won’t take me over a year to do so. Wink Wink Give Freaky Wilderness and “Immeasurable Heaven” a listen. You have not lived until you allow these frequencies to altar your brainwaves into a state of Presence, Love, Community and World Peace. Thank you Michael, Aileen, and Christian for Coming Together and Gifting us this Monumental Work of Magick. Stay Tuned for Future Creations. You will want to ride the wave early, or else you’ll be jumping on the bandwagon. Because this music is Revolutionary.

Live Deliciously. Love Authentically. And Always, Stay Wyrd! -Melinoe Macaria Mourningstar

Press Release: Freaky Wilderness released their debut album 12/13/24. Recorded Mixed and Mastered by Michael Guggino (The Space Merchants, Doom Dub, Mount Olympus). 9 tracks of 60s/70s heavy psychedelic rock. The band was recently featured in the film “Feeling Randy” starring Jonathan Silverman and Maguerite Moreau.

“Guggino has conjured a record that sits in the sweet spot where the psych-edged stoner- rock of bands such as Dead Meadow and Nebula collides with the gruff melodicexplorations of Crazy Horse and Howlin Rain. In the process the band has come up with the kind of gnarly classic-rock album that you don’t hear enough of in the current musical climate.” -Paul Osbourne Shindig! Magazine Bio: Freaky Wilderness is Michael Guggino of the Brooklyn based band The Space Merchants. Guggino is joined by Aileen Brophy on Bass and Christian Rutledge on Drums, the rhythm section of The Space Merchants. The band channels the fuzzy, chaotic energy of Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the big riffs and hooks of Zeppelin and Sabbath, and the southern fried grooviness of The Band and Little Feat.”
